Greetings dear sisters ! How are you all ? Its winter in India and its nice here. For me also its good time for work since due to the dry nature of winter , leather and batik gets dried quickly. This is our new leather batik purse. Leather batik on purses is getting somewhat rarer by day since it takes time and expertise . This purse is a combination of crackle batik and skin batik. Crackle batik is a stylistic choice where the resist (gum in our case) is deliberately allowed to crack after drying but before dyeing. The dye seeps into these cracks, creating a network of fine, contrasting lines (often referred to as the "veining" or "crackle" effect). This is the middle portion of the purse which is cream coloured . This colour is the natural leather colour. Now check out the floral design. This is skin batik and done using gum-resist paste and dyes to create intricate, hand-drawn motifs. Read less

Most of the time we use some kind of mordant with Indigo to get a slightly different color (Many times deep blue or green). Last time we only used this particular Indigo color. Good Morning dear soul sisters ! Since this is dry winter weather we are working on our wax batik products . Batik involves a process of applying wax to resist dye, and then dyeing the fabric. Do you know something ? White fabric provides a clean canvas that ensures the finished colours are bright and allows the white areas, protected by the wax, to stand out clearly in the final design. The dye colour we use will be true and vibrant, as it's not competing with any other colour. However most of the time people like colourful products and so we usually make batik products on non white base . But I wanted to make white batik products for a long time. I like the stylish look of white batik products and so thought why not ? We anyway keep experimenting so thought to see how it works. We did the kantha stitch embroidery on the potlis for decorative purpose . For this bag the red colour dye design is done using the local flower Flame of the Forest . Read less

Greetings dear sisters ! I have not been very active lately ... mainly because I am in my manufacturing unit in most of the time nowadays. My unit is in Shantiniketan , India which is an UNESCO World heritage sight. Both my factory and my place are very near to a reserve forest and sometimes I do not get good network. Also winter is the ideal time for work for us in Shantiniketan. The weather is very dry. Dry weather is best for leather and batik work and also for vegetable dye colouring. I also have an exhibition soon in Shantiniketan. So I am in Shantiniketan almost all the time. I also cant wait to show you our new works.
Today I am sharing yellow color khadi cotton and kantha stitch potli bags. Kantha is a traditional form of embroidery from Bengal . Currently I have 3 artisans who are from Burdwan (Neighbouring place to my workplace Shantiniketan ) . Burdwan can be called the centre of Kantha Stitch in India (Though some people mistakenly think Shantiniketan is the centre of Kantha Stitch). Historically, women would use fabric scraps, stitching them together with a simple running stitch to create beautiful items like blankets and throws. Blanket is called Kantha in Bengali and so this work is known as kantha stitch. This potli bag is made from Khadi cotton since khadi cotton feels sturdy yet soft and has a beautiful, slightly textured finish. We have used a yellow khadi fabric . We thought of making these potli bags a little different from the usual ones . Sometimes we make kantha stitch designs all over the potli bag but we thought that this one looks good with part kantha stitch design Read less
